WAY2WORLD ICONS:

‘India TR35 2012 list of young technology innovators’ was dominated by the Silicon Valley of India, Bangalore’s five entrants. The IIT’s were just on the heels with four innovators. The list selected for MIT Technology review consisted of over twenty young innovators all less than 35 years. The various hot technologies, they represented included biomedicine, communications, computing, energy, materials, transportation and the web for 2012. The list was announced by the Indian edition of the MIT Technology Review in Mumbai on Saturday, IIT Bombay leading the rally (among organizations). India TR35 list recognizes the outstanding innovators under the age of 35 for their continuing work in India that has the highest impact locally and globally.

The only woman in this year’s list is Priyanka Sharma, 28, from CSIR-run Institute of Microbial Technology in Chandigarh. She developed a plastic chip which uses simple techniques to detect toxic materials in the environment quickly and cost effectively. Sheer determination in their new ideas and with Positive thinking, the lot excelled in their innovations making to the list.

“Two decades of economic liberalization unleashed the innovative energies of Indians with the private sector firms in the technology sector garnering mind space in the innovation arena in recent years. Seeing the presence of technology innovators from country’s public institutions on the 2012 edition of Technology Review India’s TR35 list of young innovators is a matter of pride.” says Narayanan Suresh, Group Editor of Technology ReviewIndia.

The entire list of innovators would get a chance to present their innovations at the Emerging Technologies conference EmTech India 2012 at Bangalore later this month. India TR 35 program was started by the Indian edition way back in 2010. Till date this initiative has identified 37 young innovators. This year the participation soared to as high as 250 applicants and it was a tough time for the organizers to select the final twenty. Nearly 23 judges identified innovations which are likely to benefit the society at large. The final day will have a keynote addressed by a team of eminent scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Way2world salutes these young innovators and wishes them all the best in their endeavor to Entrepreneurship Development.  AarKayGee
