07032023 Noida, Volans Agritech:
- Do you know how much agricultural waste is generated
- What could be the predominant reason
- How could we balance the hunger and produce in this vast country
- Can you tell how many farmers want their wards to continue unlike successful professional
- Why are farmers committing suicides
This land has been thriving in agriculture and we have been proven successful agrarian economy, for ages. Yet we have not given the right support and encouragement to our farmer to dream about his ward following their traditional profession called cultivation!
The basic reason for this disastrous attitude is because improper marketing capability of the farm produce. To bring back the smile on these burdened faces, who have slogged for generations for the survival of this nation, is the primary motto of this NOIDA-based Startup VOLANS AGRITECH.
The company has developed ‘an online B2B platform for farm produce and the cottage industry. Farmers, agro-based manufacturers/business owners and self-employed individuals can register and sell their products through this e-commerce platform.’
Their SABKI MANDI, ‘e-commerce platform intends to achieve a better “market linkage” between rural producers, and urban consumers. Such linkage is expected to facilitate economic growth and will maximize benefits to farmers.’
‘Agricultural waste in India is a significant problem, and poor pricing is one of the factors contributing to it. The Indian agricultural sector is primarily made up of small and marginal farmers who lack bargaining power, leading to lower prices for their crops. This often results in farmers selling their produce at prices lower than the cost of production, leaving them with no choice but to discard their crops.’
VOLANS AGRITECH founders envision ‘being the most Successful Platform in connecting rural business owners and farmers with urban consumers through digital media and e-Commerce. They are planning to give all round support to farmers.
The six-point agenda of SABKI MANDI is:
- ‘Connecting rural artisans and millers to urban retailers.
- Farm-to-retailer model to help the farmers get better prices.
- Providing farm inputs to farmers at a competitive price through the platform.
- Retailer’s convenience with quality control to check adulteration.
- Making farmers TECHNOMIST
- Creating employment opportunities in rural areas.’
SABKI MANDI has been successful in doing the same in NOIDA and wishes to expand to the NCR region of Delhi, in the first phase and later pan India. With a tumultuous welcome from the stakeholders of the ecosystem, the team is moving forward at a rapid pace. Way2World is pleased to meet this innovative StartUp team, during one of the recent mentoring sessions.
Under prevailing situations, ‘due to the lack of proper storage and transportation facilities, a considerable amount of agricultural produce gets spoiled before it reaches the market. This leads to further wastage and loss for the farmers.
The poor pricing situation in India is further exploited by the existence of middlemen and traders who often take advantage of the farmers by offering them lower prices. The lack of market infrastructure and transparency in the pricing mechanism makes it difficult for farmers to get a fair price for their produce.
The government has implemented several measures, such as minimum support prices (MSPs) and direct procurement by government agencies, to ensure that farmers get a fair price for their crops. Additionally, has also launched several schemes to promote the establishment of cold storage facilities and improve the transportation infrastructure to reduce wastage.’
However active participation from young minds using novel initiatives harnessing emerging technologies will make this less illustrious profession into the most sought-after one. Initiatives like SABKI MANDI will add great value to the existing setup.
