HOW CAREERNAKSHA’S RIGHT CAREER COUNSELING HELPED AN INVINCIBLE GIRL
As the adage goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way”. And Vanshika Dhiryan is the epitome of the saying. The low vision of this 16-year-old girl did not deter her from achieving her dreams.
And her companion in her challenging journey has been CareerNaksha (https://careernaksha.com/), an education start-up, set up by equally enthusiastic youths.
The young girl from Delhi started consulting the local wing of CareerNaksha at Rohini area, New Delhi, when she was in Class X. That was the time she was confused regarding the stream to opt for after her board exams.
She also felt her low vision would become an impediment to the career she wanted to pursue like others. However, through CareerNaksha’s career counseling, correct guidance, identification and acceptance of challenges, and finding solutions to those challenges paved the way for Vanshika Dhiryan.
THE CHALLENGES: The main challenge was “which stream to choose” after Class X. There was a need to identify one’s own potential, personality, interest, strengths, and weaknesses based on which a subject was to be chosen.
With the multiple streams available, Vanshika Dhiryan was spoilt for choice. The second thing which she felt like a challenge due to her low vision was that it may become a little more difficult for her to make a career like others.
THE INTERVENTION: Vanshika Dhiryan clearly was in need of accurate, special, and focused guidance. And CareerNaksha (https://careernaksha.com/), a Gujarat-based career counseling organization, came to her rescue. Her biggest strength was her positivity and optimism.
The first step that CareerNaksha took was to conduct a psychometric test. The psychometric tests measure the personality, skills and talent of a student.
These tests include psychological, reasoning, aptitude, ability-based, scenario-based, motivation questionnaires and personality profile questions. It is the best way to objectify the measures that are supposed to be non-measurable.
The test helped Vanshika Dhiryan understand her overall personality and a holistic evaluation to know her strengths, skills and talents based on which career counsellors gave her best advice.
As a second step, CareerNaksha (https://careernaksha.com/) helped Vanshika Dhiryan set her career goals based on her strength. She liked to learn new things besides her interest in art and craft, music, computer and languages.
Thus, under the guidance of CareerNaksha, she set up two plans for herself. Plan A included picking subjects of her interest – that is Humanities (Hindi, English, Political Science, and Psychology) as the stream in higher secondary.
Plan B was to pursue French language, and Computer as a career later on in graduation, all of which were of her interest. Without waiting much, Vanshika Dhiryan already started her certification course in the French language.
As a third step, CareerNaksha’s special educator at Rohini’s centre in Delhi taught her Braille, which helped her more effectively in her reading and studies.
With that, it was also decided that Vanshika Dhiryan will take an internship in Artificial Intelligence from CareerNaksha. The organization provides special education at its Rohini centre in Delhi. It also imparts career counselling and vocational training for children with special needs.
THE RESULT: Today, Vanshika Dhiryan is thoroughly enjoying the entire process of career counselling and vocational training. She is a bright student of Class XI, who is clear about her goals and career path.
Vanshika Dhiryan has her own YouTube Channel and Instagram page to inspire other students. As a next step, this student of Humanities is all set to prepare for her Class XII board exams with video lessons at the CBSE and NCERT websites.
