Creating Opportunities:

Life most times tests you and then teaches you. The classic example is Achel Bakeri, the visionary founder of Symphony Limited. The company was born out of the turmoil, the founder faced when he bought an assembled air cooler way back in 1987. This drove the MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of southern California, to explore the air cooler, market in India, which was dominated by local manufacturers from Delhi in those days. From a humble beginning etching out a living from father support the entrepreneur in him survived all odds and reached a stage where he is positioned today.

Strategy and execution played a pivotal role in shaping Symphony limited. With the competition close on heels, the visionary founder planned an air cooler on the lines of air conditioner. This strategy had both sides of a coin. While the good was customers took pride in their buy out, they also expected the efficiency on similar lines to the air conditioner. However, bright proposals to educate the consumer paid off well. Also the pricing was also quite enormous when compared to the local ones, like local coolers were available at Rs 2,500, but Symphony was sold at Rs 4,500. However Symphony was backed by a strong service network. This was a cashing point for sales to soar.

Symphony shaped well from a mere 300sft, six units’ sale in 1988.  The company today has Rs 300 Cr worth business with exports to 60 other countries. It has taken over IMPCO, an air cooler company in North America, for about $25 million, in 2008-09. With a 450 employee base and 80,000 sft in Gujarat, Symphony is poised to dominate the segment. Way2World wishes the visionary founder, a grand success in their endeavor.
