This time we have with us KRISHNADAS an entrepreneur, trainer and executive mentor who runs multiple businesses. His company P5 CONSULTING provides bespoke HR, training and psychometric assessment services to companies and individuals.

Coach KRISHNADAS briefs an interesting memory, “A few years ago, I was attending a training workshop in Mumbai as a participant. It was a 3-day intense workshop with lots of assignments to be done overnight, data crunching and debates with fellow participants. Coffee was my best friend during those 3 days.

Of the other 15 participants, one caught my interest. He was a long-retired CXO of a large international conglomerate. I had met him many years earlier, at an event where he was the chief guest and then later, socially, when we were introduced by a common acquaintance.

He was well over 70 years old, and the oldest participant in the group that comprised mostly of upcoming entrepreneurs.

Over the course of the workshop, we connected over common interests, assignments and food. On the final day, I felt comfortable enough to be a little cheeky with him.

I asked him, ‘Sir, in the age when most people prefer to enjoy a quiet, relaxed life, why did you decide to attend this grueling workshop? I know most of the participants here, I included, have joined so that we can use the tools learnt here to apply in our business and sell to our clients. With due respect,” I added, “You don’t seem to be wanting for money. So why take the pain?”

He put down the nice little Old Fashioned that he was nursing, smiled and said, “KD, I can give you a philosophical answer and an honest-to-heart one. Which do you prefer?”

I laughed and responded, “Give me both!”

“Philosophically speaking,” he said, “it is believed that the day you stop learning, is the day you start dying. It’s a quote that has been attributed to many people over the course of history.

But as someone who has led multinational companies, and seen thousands of employees grow in their careers, I have had the opportunity to witness this in action.

Those companies and individuals, who, maybe after achieving a certain level of success and results, stopped putting efforts in research, learning or self-development, eventually got stagnated and became redundant.”

I knew what he was saying was true. As a consultant, trainer and aspiring coach, I had seen this phenomenon up close.

One of my clients at the time was a young Edu-tech start-up entrepreneur who had built his name in the start-up community in Ahmedabad. His company had received a large seed fund from an incubator and a year later, a quarter of a million dollars from a venture capital firm”………….(To be continued)
